Can I get a Woo Woo?

We are making decisions right and left about the house - not the old one, not the one Poppy sold, not the Simple Life "dwelling" - but the one we are slowly, but surely, building. And yes, it does feel like we are physically building it.

I like to visit "the land" daily as it makes living the Simple Life bearable. Which, by the way, I am now entering week 9 - can I get a woo woo? It seems like just yesterday I was wallowing in self pity about storms, mice, and thin burgundy shag carpet on concrete floors.

The masons/brick layers started this weekend - actually two days early. Can I get another woo woo?

I am relieved that I still love the brick now that it is slapped on the side of our house. You never know what it will actually look like just by looking at one of those little sample boards.

So without further ado - here is our home to be:

Front view

My new favorite friends working hard

View of back left side of house and covered porch that will be completed after my new favorite friends finish the brick work

View of back of house - the triple windows on the far left are our bedroom windows

Garage and our bathroom window

The foyer - door to be stained at some point

Um, Wy - do you need to...

Yep. And that is dirt on his little bottom - he slid down the hill of course.

You Be, I Be

One of Wyatt's favorite games is "You Be, I Be"

It usually goes something like this:

You be Carter and I be Jack.
or
You be Simba and I be Scar.

Well yesterday it went like this:

Wy: You be the dead kangawoo

Me: What?

Wy: You be the dead kangawoo

Me: The dead kangaroo?

Wy: Uh huh, hit by a caw

Me: Dead kangaroo hit by a car?

Wy: mashed on the woad

Me: You want me to be a dead kangaroo hit by a car mashed on the road?

Wy: Uh huh

Me: Okay....

And while I was doing my best impression of that lovely image I heard his little voice say

"And I be the vulcha" (vulture)

Oh, right - now the dead kangaroo hit by a car mashed on the road portrayal makes total sense.

School's Out for the Summer!

Today was Wyatt's last day at his Mother's Day Out program that he attends.

He seemed happy about it.

This is the infamous TAN shirt that I had to go seek out and buy because the teacher stated that he needed to wear TAN - not brown. And I thought it really mattered and had to follow the rules - for a 5 minute school program.

The program was entitled "The Animal Train" which was pretty cute. Wyatt was wisely cast as the monkey. All he had to do was stand there and wait for the train to come by him. Then he said "Stop Train Stop! I want to ride!" Then the narrator would have the animals join the train and they would go down the line and say their sound i.e. ooh, ooh, aah, aah.

The lighting wasn't great in the gymnasium but here are a few shots of my little monkey. Of course he would have looked more like a monkey had he actually worn the mask over his face instead of pushed on top of his head - but it is his portrayal, right?

Didi and Ditda were both there and afterwards we ditched the refreshments and headed over to Honey's on the square - famous for their pool room slaw and hamburger steak - yummy!

The online proofs from the entire shoot won't be ready for another 2 - 3 weeks but they will be adding finished proofs as they go.

Yikes! When did my baby turn into such a handsome little boy? Where did my toddler go?

UPDATED:

Here are the pics they have posted on their blog in case you don't want to go looking for them. :)

Visine - It Takes the Red Out

Last night Jeremy and I heard a loud bump while we were watching TV. It took us a minute to figure out that the bump was the sound of Wyatt rolling right off his bed. Jeremy peeked in his room and he was ASLEEP on the floor - curled up in a little ball. The child didn't even wake up when we moved him back into bed. I made sure he was breathing and just figured he was REALLY tired. So I put some pillows on the floor next to his bed in case he took another tumble.

This morning when Wy woke up, he noticed the pillows immediately and wanted an explanation. So I told him about his tumble and he decided to roll off the bed to see if the pillows worked. Well, they did soften his fall but this time he bumped his chin on the bed frame. He can be rather dramatic and gave a good cry even though there was not even a mark.

Then he decided he needed medicine for his chin. Insisted actually. Great - like I even had a clue as to where all the medicine was. I looked through the bucket of meds I brought over in the move but couldn't find any Neosporin.

But I did find Visine.

And it looks like medicine to a 3 year old.

So I very carefully applied 3 drops to his chin and he was better instantly.

See?

Brusha, Brusha, Brusha! Puka, Puka, Puka!

Today was Wyatt's 1st official visit to the dentist. Finally. This is a different dentist than the one he visited on his field trip back in February. It is a pediatric dentist and they are totally up my alley. They have a younger child's play area, an older child/teen waiting area, and an adults only coffee corner waiting area. The staff are super nice and very experienced with working with children. They do everything they can do to make a visit to the dentist as pleasant as possible for a child. Well, almost everything, but I will get to that later.

Now I have to mention that the talk of the town is the swine flu as there are two probable cases in the area. All the schools were closed today and will be tomorrow as well. One mom in the waiting area told her little girl at least 12 times "don't touch your face." It was making me paranoid. I was about to whip out the hand sanitizer myself when they called us back.

The first thing they did was take his picture - score - which they then turned into a cute "My First Dental Visit" magnet.

Here he is waiting for his cleaning.

Jeremy was so embarrassed that I had brought my camera. Then I switched it over to video and he was even more embarrassed.

Everything was great with his teeth - no cavities and no cross bite. They were just going to do the exam today and not push the cleaning but I told her that we had been practicing. :) So, she cleaned his teeth with cookie dough flavored paste - eww. He really didn't get excited about it either. While cleaning his teeth, after she would rinse, she would instruct him to swallow. That seemed odd to me b/c I thought they would just suction all that out. But I figured it must be some kind of toddler safe paste and didn't think anything else about it.

So we get out of the dentist with a bag of goodies: a new magnet, a t-shirt, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a prize (tacky plastic snake - typical boy) and we head across the street to lunch. Did I mention that we were starving? Fortunately, the restaurant wasn't crowded at all b/c all the good parents were at home with their children shielding them from any unneccesary risk of being exposed.

So, the waitress brought us our food and before I even had time to open up my silverware, Wyatt began to gag. At first I thought we was just choking on his drink, but then I quickly realized that wasn't the case. He was sick and he threw up directly onto his plate of food. Multiple times. It seems the empty tummy, the nerves from the event, and the swallowing of the nasty cookie dough paste was more than his little tummy could handle.

Here's the classic part, especially if you know me and my obsession with following "the rules." **

I immediately looked at J and said "Oh no - they are going to think he has the swine flu!"

He just looked at me like I was crazy. My child is sick and I am worried about what other people will think. Guilty as charged.

I covered up the vomit with napkins, told the waitress we needed to go boxes, instructed J to pay with cash (I don't want them to know our name!) and high tailed it out of there before the news media descended upon the place.

Of course he was totally fine after he got it out of his system. And I was totally thankful for the goody bag as it provided me with what I needed to get us home - a clean t-shirt and an empty bag :)

** Once upon a time, I rented a SUV to take a group of us to FL and there were only 2 rental agency approved drivers: myself and my friend Leslie. Well, we weren't driving fast enough so we let Leslie's husband Mark drive part of the way. He gets pulled over for speeding and the first thing out of my mouth is: "Oh Mark! I hope the policeman doesn't notify the rental car company you were driving!" I was stressing out about that the whole trip. They will never let me live that one down.

You Ain't Seen Crazy...

...until you see this!

(Notice how I used the word "ain't" in my title in an attempt to embrace my current culture.)

OK - This. Makes. Me. Laugh. Out. Loud...

...which is cheaper than therapy.

I want you to realize that this is serious. These people are serious. They may be nutso, but they are tee-totally serious. And they are truly devastated.

Why, you might ask. Did they lose their home? Their job? A family member?

NO - nothing that trivial, people.

They are in a circle, in the woods, DEVASTATED because...

a
tree
was
cut
down.

Yep - a tree. Some mean ole meanie cut down the OAK GROVE. And because of this, there are actual tears being shed. The word bawling would be an appropriate fit. MEN (and I use that term loosely) are so broken hearted that they are curled up in the fetal position while being comforted by fellow, perhaps more seasoned, tree hugging hippies.

AND I don't care who you are - IT'S FUNNY.

Thank goodness Rainbow Rose had her wits about her (even though she was about 2 breaths away from hyperventilating) to let the TREES know that they are loved and that they should not worry because there are people who care and don't want them to DIE. Whew, what a relief for those trees.

And what about that last little baby, wannabe tree hugger? Her brave little monologue sends me into a fit of giggles every time.

Watch it again - I know you are still in disbelief that people could be so completely out of touch with reality. SERIOUSLY, PEOPLE - GET A GRIP. Or don't - and post more videos to humor me.

And if some of you wicked, industrialized people could please clear your calendars of all that superficial stuff like jobs and family, according to EarthFirst's website, they are still in desperate need of people to protect the spotted owl habitat in the McKay Tract of Humboldt County.

PEACE :)
