Pasta & Bread & Sugars - Oh My!

Another of the many items that I have recently added to my "things to remember" list:

The night before you have a glucose test, do not go to an Italian restaurant, eat an entire plate of pasta, and an equivalent of at least one loaf of bread.

Because if you do that, you may just score a 167 on your glucose test when the limit is 140.

Dr. C. was very surprised that I scored that high seeing that I have none of the risk factors and only scored a 116 with Wyatt. I mentioned to her that I thought it was probably the huge Italian meal I had wolfed down the night before and she agreed that it must have affected my numbers. She is letting me "re-take" the test as I assured her that I just really didn't think that was an accurate reading - you know, since I am a doctor and all.

I just CAN'T have gestational diabetes. A good friend of mine had it (she didn't really have any of the risk factors either) and she had to be on a strict diet, complete with meal journals and needles! While totally impressed with her ability to manage that, I am a total wuss and don't think I can prick my finger and give myself shots! I would have to make Jeremy do it for me.

The rest of the appointment went just fine. Baby boy's heart rate was at 150. I am measuring at 25 weeks which is within the normal target range. And I have only gained 9 pounds to date - YAY! I went overboard big time with Wyatt by gaining a total of 41 pounds. And guess what? I never was able to lose all of it. So this time around I have been much more conscious of the food I have been putting in my mouth - except for last night when I practically licked the plate clean.

This time I am gracing you with both a formal and a casual 24 week bump pic! One was taken on the actual 24 week mark and the other today after my appointment. J thought it was tacky for me to be photographed in my "comfy clothes" which is what I live in the minute I am home. Hence the addition of the formal pic! :)

Safety First!

Well, to date, we have successfully replaced about 100 of the 121 outlets that I mentioned in the previous post. The rest are going to be replaced Monday afternoon since we ended up having to order some.

And let me tell you, I am SO GLAD that we had to replace them. I mean look how much better the new outlets look versus the original. I am going to have to write the State of TN a thank you note. I mean, sure, it delayed us moving in this weekend when we had time and NOTHING ON OUR SCHEDULE, but certainly Wyatt won't mind missing out on going Trick or Treat this year. (Grrrr....)

House Update - Week #, oh hell, I lost count

I really cannot stand it when I don't update my blog AT LEAST weekly so I thought I would just do a quick house update post. So no cute stories or pictures this time around. Just a little venting to help with my stress management!

So we had our FINAL electrical inspection this morning. Guess what? We didn't pass. No big surprise there. It took a couple times for the rough in electrical inspection as well. The thing I like is he tells you exactly what is wrong so if you fix those items, you know you will pass the next time.

We had two plugs in the garage that had to be changed to a GFI (not sure I have the terminology right) and then a portion of the concrete from the driveway was covering a portion of something important outside, so that had to be cut back. Those aren't a big deal at all and in fact, the concrete people have already been by to fix that for us.

Here is the INSANE part of the inspection. We have to change out ALL of the outlets in the entire house. There are 121 of those suckers. Why you may ask? Well, apparently, in the last 2 months, they implemented a new law that requires every outlet to be child tamper resistant. SERIOUSLY. Doesn't this guy know we don't give a crap about our child's safety?!?!

We don't have to change out any of the light switches - just the 121 outlets!!! I actually took the news better than I thought I would. Jeremy said he literally had to sit down when the man told him that. That is not only time consuming but we are imagining that these "special child resistant" outlets probably cost more than a basic outlet. I am just so glad I wasn't there when the guy told him that. Of course, maybe an overly emotional pregnant woman would have been able to persuade him to give us a break but I doubt it. Fortunately, our electrician was already at Inline Lighting (one of my homes away from home) and was working on getting all of those special little outlets that the state of TN has decided to require.

Of course the Inspector only does inspections on Tuesdays and Thursdays so now we have to wait until Tuesday to get another inspection. And we will have to go back to the utility place to pay another inspection fee and get on his little schedule. Although I am sure we will need all that time to swap out all those outlets. So much for seeing Jeremy at all the next few evenings.

Even though we have encountered this delay, I am still hoping against everything that we can move in by Halloween weekend. The final electrical is literally the last thing we are waiting on. The paint is finished, the appliances are in, the heating & air guys finally finished, our propane tank was put in the ground and filled, the house has even already been cleaned. And she still owes us 2 hours so I can have her come back and clean the toilets since all the nasty workmen have been using ours instead of the porta-potty that is right outside. We even have some furniture deliveries scheduled for next week.

Actually, and you know it pains me to say this, we HAVE to be out by the 31st because we promised the Simple Life owner that we would be. Our original agreement was for us to stay through September so we are already a month over. So Jeremy can sleep in his office and Wy and I can stay a few nights with my parents if it comes to that. (Right, mom and dad?) Our stuff is getting out of here next week, even if it just goes to the garage. And THAT image my dear friends, of us being free of the Simple Life, makes me smile. I may even do a special Simple Life edition blog complete with PICTURES of our humble abode we have lived in for the past 7 months!

Please, please, please say a prayer that we get everything done before next Tuesday so that we get the green light. I am thinking about sending this guy some flowers - no, I think beer would be a better gift for an electrical inspector...lots and lots of beer!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

Ya know, I thought that living in a trailer for 6 months could possibly result in some negative side effects... but I had no idea it would be to this magnitude!!! Time to get them all capped!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!!

On the Road Again...

Wy is on Fall Break from his MMO this week. Because we never knew when we would be *moving, we didn't plan a vacation for this fall. So, just to do something different, we headed up to the TN Aquarium for the day.


Wy refused to stand on the other end by the alligator head even though I assured him that he could not be bitten through the glass...

There were glass openings in the ceiling & throughout this cave area. Everytime we entered a new area, Wyatt would say very dramatically "Oh. My. Goodness." He had a great time and we had a great time watching him absorb it all.

* Yes, I am aware it is now OCTOBER. I do have good news - our hardwood floors are now stained...and they are beautiful. There was a major delay related to the floors as there was too much moisture in the wood so we had to wait until the moisture went down to have them stained. Left on the to do list: touch up paint, the final electrical inspection and final clean-up. Doesn't that sound like it could all be done by the end of next week? Yeah, I want to think so too but my new goal is Halloween.

Gotta love him! The 20 week ultrasound reminds me of that Skeletor character - it doesn't really look like a baby to me much less to a 3 year old. Once we found out the gender, Wy was content to look at his book or just have random chatter with J.

Everything looks right on target regarding his scan so that is great. Now just to think of names. Gotta think of something equally unique like Wyatt.

I do have some pictures from the day that I will post later on but for now, I am ready to go to bed. Like "they say" - you better sleep now. I hate that saying. Like you can store it up or something. Anyway, 20 weeks down, another 20 (max) to go!
